A North Jersey developer plans to redevelop the long-vacant Echelon Mall into a mixed-use destination. The project would exceed $250 million in total investment.
The redevelopment, now called Voorhees Town Center, would feature high-end restaurants, entertainment venues, sports retailers, housing, and community spaces. Plans may also include an upscale supermarket.
The proposal includes townhouses, apartments, a parking garage, and public gathering areas. The Voorhees Township Committee unanimously approved the redevelopment agreement in October.
However, the project’s future depends on state funding. Developer Hoboken Brownstone Co. has applied for a $90 million New Jersey tax credit.
Company President George Vallone said the development will not move forward without the incentive. “If not, we walk,” Vallone said.
Vallone previously shared similar comments with the Philadelphia Business Journal. Local officials remain supportive of the proposal.
Voorhees Township Mayor Michael Mignogna said he supports the thoughtful redevelopment of the former mall site. He added that the plan aligns with the township’s long-term vision.
